Bank of England ‘to Return to QE Soon’
Spread betting provider City Index takes a look at the financial activity shaping the markets on 29th September 2011.
The Bank of England could restart its quantitative easing (QE) programme in November due to the ongoing weak state of the economy, experts have predicted ufabet.
A poll of 60 economists conducted by Reuters found a median 40 per cent expecting the asset purchase scheme to be reintroduced at its next meeting on October 6th, while 75 per cent forecast that such a move will be taken at a later date.
The QE initiative is currently valued at 200 billion and the news agency noted a 50 billion boost is the most likely scenario, with the newly-created money used to bring down currency borrowing costs and stimulate the economy.
However, some respondents to the survey predicted the value of the scheme could be raised by as much as 100 billion.
The bank introduced its QE policy in March 2009 in order to help the economy meet the inflation target and decreased the base rate to the current record low of 0.5 per cent at the same time.
